Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD)
75% of the population will develop PTSD from some horrific experience throughout their life. PTSD can develop from divorce, rape, accidents, disasters, abuse, victimization and combat.
Spiritually, the soul, the light of our life, is not equipped to handle these traumatic experiences. Therefore, a separation of body and spirit take place as a means to protect itself from further harm. Sometimes, a traumatic experience is so great, the soul no longer wants to exist in the body. The body continues to function, although the soul remains separated, afraid to experience the pain. (War and the Soul, Edward Tick, Ph.D)
Physiologically, the traumatic event remains trapped in the amygdala of the brain. The hippocampus is not able to present the memory to the neocortex for evaluation, meaning the brain is not able to make sense of the event. The organ primarily responsible for your survival is the amygdala. PTSD occurs when the amygdala receives input with a very high emotional value, gets in a panic mode, and is unable to forward to the hippocampus, therefore remains "STUCK." This is a simple explanation as to why PTSD sufferers remain in a constant state of arousal, causing flashbacks and high levels of anxiety. (NLP for Dummies)
